S.T.O.P Taking Our People

About

What is STOP?

STOP stands for "Stop Taking Our People". This website provides general information and statistics about human trafficking in the United States, and more specifically in Washington D.C. On our site you will find links to TED talks, documentaries, and articles talking about the issue. For those looking to learn more about how to protect themselves, our assistance page has advice on how to keep yourself and others safe, and tips on recognizing the signs of human trafficking in action.

Why?

STOP was created in an effort to raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking in our country, and more specifically within our nation's capital. For such a relevant issue we find that human trafficking is often underestimated, and underrepresented. By providing general information on the topic, we hope to make this issue a relevant issue, and hopefully protect our community from future incidences.

How?

All four creators have participated in Girls Who Codes's seven week intensive summer program dedicated towards teaching young girls how to code. Throughout the program we learned the basics of many computer programming languages including Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Our final project prompt was to take the skills we learned through the program and use them to create a technological solution to a cause that we are passionate about.

I was born in Ethiopia but moved to Maryland when I was ten. Some of my hobbies include reading, listening to music, and learning new skills. My goal in life is to give other people the same opportunities I was lucky enough to receive. Also, I would love to travel around the world to see other people’s perspective of life.

I’m a current junior in high school and I‘m really passionate about human rights. I hope this website makes an impact in others’ lives and expand beyond a local audience. My other hobbies include volleyball, reading, and writing. If I could choose to do whatever I wanted, it would be to have a legacy that’ll live beyond me. One that would change people’s lives for the better.

Born in N.C in 1999 but moved to D.C. in 2012, I am a rising senior graduating in 2018. I play softball and volleyball, I am in book club, poetry club, GSA, and photography club. I am the oldest of 6 kids on my dad’s side of the family but the third on my mom’s side. Seeing that I have so many siblings it only takes my awareness for human trafficking to the next level. I want everyone’s eyes to open to what’s going on around them no matter where they are.

Hi! I'm a rising junior at B-CC High School where I will play on the softball team, and join the photography club. In my free time I like to read, draw, and take pictures. This project has made me very passionate about human trafficking and I hope that this website makes a difference in my community, and in the world.
