What is human trafficking?

Human trafficking is typically referred to as the 'modern-day slavery'.

It usually involves "the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act" (Blue Campaign).

Human trafficking generates huge amounts of profits each year, and is the second most profitable transnational crime after drug trafficking.

Traffickers target those with high emotional/psychological vulnerability, financial instability, and lack of social network.

As a result of the intense trauma caused by human trafficking, many victims refrain from identifying themselves or asking for help.

Though it is more common for victims of human trafficking to be women, people of all gender, race, age, ethnicity, and immigration status are susceptible.
